Purified by Truth

1 Peter 1:22-23 KJV Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: [23] Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

We are purified by truth. Truth, here, is not subjective truth. It is absolute truth. the only source for absolute truth is the Word of God. Truth will lead us to ove one another in a correct way. This is not about how we might feel or how we might think. Real love is based on truth. It is the truth of God’s Word that brings the Gospel to us. Through the Gospel we see our need of salvation and are born again when we place our trust in Christ as Savior. Let’s allow the truth to purify our hearts. None of us are perfect and there is always rom for improvement. Let’s allow that improvement to come by the Word of God.

The Object of Faith

1 Peter 1:20-21 KJV Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, [21] Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

God’s plan of salvation was decided upon before He ever created the world. He knew the He would have to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sin of mankind before He said, “Let there be light.” Salvation, then, is through Jesus Christ and only through Him. The central issue for every person is where is their faith. If our faith is in anything but Jesus Christ, we do not have salvation. Christ died for our sins, God raised Him from the dead, and through faith in  Him we have salvation. The only way to have faith in God is through Jesus Christ.

Redeemed

1 Peter 1:17-19 KJV And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: [18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; [19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

When we trust Christ as our Savior, we are redeemed. Redeemed means that we have been purchased from the slave market of sin never to be exposed to sale again. We must understand that we are not redeemed by our good works. We are not redeemed by any religious rituals. Our redemption cannot be purchased with corruptible things. We can only be redeemed by the precious blood of Christ which was shed for us on the cross. If Christ is our Savior, we ought to then live like we are redeemed.

Be Holy

1 Peter 1:15-16 KJV But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; [16] Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Our God is holy. This means that there is absolutely no sin or stain of sin in Him. It is His holiness that demanded payment for our sin. His holy demand was met by His love for us when He sent His Son to die for us (John 3:16). When we trust Christ as our Savior, we accept His call to us and are the heirs of eternal life. Because He is holy, we are to be holy in every area of our life. This can only be achieved by yielding to the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our life and allowing Him to control every thought, attitude, and activity. Let’s yield every day to the leadership of the Holy Spirit so that we might be the children of God we ought to be.

Impacted by Salvation

1 Peter 1:13-14 KJV Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; [14] As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

We have seen that we are blessed to be saved. The prophets of old prophesied of this salvation and the angels desire to look into our salvation. We must understand that salvation should impact our daily life. Here, we see that salvation ought to impact how we think. Because of salvation, we are to protect our minds through hope and grace. We have a hope of eternal salvation. God’s grace will enable us to protect our thoughts. We see that salvation should also impact our actions. Our actions are to be different from the life we led before salvation (2 Cor. 5:17). Let’s make sure that we allow our salvation to impact our thoughts and actions.

Blessed to be Saved

1 Peter 1:12 KJV Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

The prophets of old prophesied about a salvation they could only partially see and understand. We see in this verse that even the angels do not understand salvation, but they are looking into it. We have salvation because of the completed work of Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost confirms our salvation in our soul. We are definitely blessed to live in this age. We should live our life in a way that displays our salvation. Our display of salvation should influence others to seek Christ as their Savior. Let’s live each day showing the world what a blessing it is to be saved.

Blessed and Privileged

1 Peter 1:10-11 KJV Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: [11] Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

What a privilege it is to live in this day. The prophets of the Old Testament could only prophesy about the complete work of Jesus Christ. They could only prophesy about God’s grace that is freely given at salvation. They did not even have the complete Word of God. We are blessed to experience the completed work of Christ on our behalf for salvation. We are privileged to experience God’s grace. We have the complete Word of God. Because of the blessings and privileges God has afforded us, we should be stronger in our faith. We should show the world the privilege of being a child of God.

Faith and Joy

1 Peter 1:8-9 KJV Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: [9] Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Sometimes there is not much joy in this world. We go through times where is seems that we are experiencing joy in our life. The answer to finding real joy in our life is Jesus Christ. The whom in verse 8 is Jesus Christ. We cannot physically see Him, yet we love Him. We believe by faith in Jesus. That faith leads to rejoicing. That faith will one day be laid aside when we see Him face to face. At that moment, all of the cares of this world will fade away and we will experience eternal joy and rest.

Precious Trials

1 Peter 1:7 KJV That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

What do we value above anything else? That question would probably have as many answers as those asked. One answer that we would never give is that value trials above everything else. However, we see that God values the trials we face. They are more precious than gold to Him. God never allows trials into our life just to simply bring pain into our life. God uses trials, painful as they are, to shape us and mold us into the image of Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:28-29). Being Christ-like in our life is a top priority to God. He values that image in us above everything else. As we go through trials, let’s remember God view of how precious they are to Him.

Kept in Hope

1 Peter 1:5-6 KJV Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. [6] Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

Having trusted Christ as our Savior, we are kept in that condition by the power of God. We do not have the power to keep ourselves in a saved condition. Salvation is completely the work of God and the keeping of salvation is completely the work of God. Because we are kept, we have an assurance of hope beyond this life. Our hope is in Christ. Our hope and rest comes when we are in heaven. Because we have this hope, we can endure the trials and tribulations of this world. Compared to an eternity in heaven in the presence of our Savior, our trials and tribulations only last for a season.
