Blessed Mom

Proverbs 31:10,28 KJV Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. [28] Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

What a joy it is to have a godly mother. My mother is in heaven today. I certainly am looking forward to the day when I will see her again. I have so many blessed memories of my mother. It was a privilege to be her pastor for the last few years of her life. There is another mother that is near to my heart and that is my wife. I am blessed to be married to her and have her be the mother of my children. She is a great lady, the best Christian I know, and a wonderful mother to my four children. To all mothers today – Happy Mother’s Day. Have a great day and may the Lord bless you.

Fret Not

Psalm 37:7-8 KJV Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. [8] Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

All around us there are those who do not live right and yet seem to be doing better than us. There are who live wickedly and do evil to others. It is easy for us to become focused on these people and wonder where God is in all of this wrong doing and wickedness. It is easy for us to think that somehow all of this has escaped God’s notice. God sees and God will right every wrong in His time. Our response is to simply wait on Him and rest in Him. We are to do good and not evil. We should not the evil of others become an excuse for us to do evil. Let’s rest in God and wait on Him.

Foolish Things

1 Corinthians 1:27 KJV But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

It is true that God does not work the way man does. God does not see things that way man does. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9). When it comes to the work of God, He has chosen the foolishness of preaching to proclaim the Gospel to a lost and dying world. God uses the foolish things to confound those who deem themselves wise. God will use those who appear to be weak to confound those who think they are strong. Our response to this is to simply desire to be used by God. We should not be concerned with how the world views us, rather, we should be concerned with how God views us and desires to use us.

Watch Our Words

Proverbs 18:21 KJV Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The tongue is a powerful thing. The Apostle James warns us of the dangers of the tongue in James 3:2-12. Here we are also given a warning of the danger of the tongue. At the same time, we are told that the tongue can be used for good. we can either tear people down with our tongue or we can build people up with our tongue. The words we use when dealing with people will either help or hurt. We also see that we will experience the consequences of our words. We cannot idly use words and not expect to deal with the consequences of our words.

God’s Love and Wrath

John 3:16,36 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [36] He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

At the cross we see both the love of God and the wrath of God. Because of God’s love for us, Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin. Because of His love for us, God poured out His wrath of our sin upon Jesus. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we experience God’s love because Jesus experienced His wrath in our place. When we do not accept Jesus as our Savior, then we are still under God’s wrath because we have not accepted Christ’s payment for our sin.

Lead by Truth

Psalm 25:5 KJV Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

In this day when there are so many voices saying so many contrary things, it is good to know that there is a source that will lead us in the right way. The Lord will lead us in truth. This truth is not truth that is subjective, it is absolute truth. It is truth we can depend on. The Lord’s truth, His Word, is a faithful guide in this confusing world. We do not have to try and determine which truth we should follow. Following the Word of God takes all the guess work out of the issue. Let’s allo God to lead us today through his Word.

Shielded by the Lord

Psalm 3:3 KJV But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

In this Psalm, David is fleeing from his son, Absalom. David, no doubt, feels betrayed and is heart broken. Each of us have experience this type of circumstance on some level in our life. We have been betrayed by a friend. We have had someone close to us break our heart. The truth is that it will likely happen again in our life. What do we do in these type of circumstances? We go to the Lord and lean on Him. He will shield us as we go through painful things. He will life us up and will give us a measure of glory. We can depend on Him.

Choose This Day

Joshua 24:15 KJV And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

In this day and age, we must still make the choice of who we are going to serve. Joshua challenged his people to choose to serve God rather than serving idols. We are given to placing things in our life where God should be in our lives. it is easy for us to replace God with things. We need to choose to be put God in the first place in our life. God needs to be top priority one in our life. This is to be a daily choice on our part. Who will you serve today?

The Finish Line

Hebrews 12:2 KJV Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

If we are to run our race with patience, we need to know where the finish line is. If thre is no finish line, then it cannot be rightly called a race. Today’s verse gives us the finish line. The finish line is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the beginning and the end of our faith. He is the measuring stick of our growth in faith. Jesus is the One that each of us should aspire to pattern our life after. We, like Jesus, should run our race with joy. In and of ourselves, we cannot accomplish this. But Jesus can and will help us finish our race with joy.

Watch That Besetting Sin

Hebrews 12:1 KJV Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Yesterday, we saw that in order to run our race with patience we needed to lay aside all of our burdens. Today, we will see that we also need to lay aside the sin that easily trips us up. The verse here calls it a besetting sin. Each of us have a particular sin that trips us up. No one is exempt from a besetting sin. No one is above having a besetting sin. It is very likely that we each know all too well what our besetting sin is. We need to identify it, avoid it, and make no provisions for falling into our besetting sin. This will help us to lay it aside and run our race with patience.
